Alastair MacFadden is an Executive in Residence with the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy.

He served previously as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Career Training (2018-2020) and Assistant Deputy Minister of Labour Market Development (2013-18) for the Government of Saskatchewan, and in other roles in government and the non-profit sector. As a senior official in government, Alastair reconciled labour market agendas for Canadians and newcomers, he negotiated investments in workers and businesses, and he worked to improve the results of labour market activities through collaborative planning with business, labour and others.

His time as a senior official saw Saskatchewan rank among the top performing labour markets in Canada, based on areas like the employment rate of under-represented groups, job tenures, and the average period of unemployment.
