About Lise
Originally from Ontario, now based in Calgary, I have worked in the field for almost 17 years. While most of my career has been in “traditional, standard employment”, I am now self employed with a portfolio career. Careers That Work for You is my career advising business. I juggle contracts and gigs, including teaching in Continuing Education at University, facilitating workshops for the Government of Alberta, 1:1 client career advising, and contracts to design career curriculum for post-secondary institutions. I chose to work this way to have flexibility while my 2 kids are young. My formal education includes a BA in English from the University of Guelph and a Career Development Practitioner Graduate Certificate from Conestoga College. My career philosophy: Work should be meaningful. What creates meaning is different for everyone. Meaningful work can be found through knowing values, skills, interests, wants and needs, AND understanding the labour market. For fun, I ride my bike, stress bake, camp, support local microbreweries, xc ski and read Canadian fiction.
