Michael first came to the Northwest Territories in the late 1990s and began working with the Department of Education, Culture and Employment in 2002. Since that time, Michael has worked in various positions with ECE, having spent time in the Beaufort Delta Region, North Slave Region and ECE Headquarters (Yellowknife). During this time he has delivered front line services, managed regional programs and services, developed programs at the headquarters level and also worked to reform Income Security Programs and Labour Market Programs. Throughout his career with the Government of the Northwest Territories, Michael has utilized and relied on labour market information to make decisions and facilitate change.
In November 2016, Michael assumed the position of Director, Labour Development and Standards. In this role, he is responsible for the oversight and development of labour market, apprenticeship and immigration programming, as well as matters relating to employment standards. Prior to assuming this role, Michael worked in the North Slave Region, first as the Regional Manager, Career Development, and later as the Regional Superintendent from 2011 until 2016.
