Future of work
A curated resource of recent research on trends shaping Canada's labour market.
The paper reviews literature on COVID-19, remote work and work–life wellness. It concludes that the work–life wellness of remote workers may be impacted by a lack of organizational support during the transition to remote work, combined with COVID-19 related stresses. Although remote workers had slightly higher job satisfaction and lower stress compared to traditional workers, their wellness could be impacted by overwork and by work interfering with personal life. Career development practitioners can help clients by being aware of how home dynamics, COVID-19 stress and overwork can complicate the transition to remote work. Organizations and employees will need continued support to find the best-suited remote work scenarios during and beyond the pandemic.
