The In Motion & Momentum+ career readiness program could highlight the importance of pre-employability skills for workers.

This Future Skills Centre report evaluates the preliminary outcomes of In Motion & Momentum+ (IM&M+), a career readiness program offered by the Canadian Career Development Foundation.

IM&M+ aims to enhance foundational skills and leverage strengths to help job seekers overcome barriers to employment. The program was developed to provide a participant-centred approach that fills a gap in the support network for those struggling to enter the labour market, guiding job seekers to positive experiences and renewed self-belief.

To assess the impact of this program, a randomized controlled trial took place from February 2022 to March 2023. It compared the experiences of IM&M+ participants with those of non-participants who were receiving standard employment services. The trial revealed positive impacts of the IM&M+ program on pre-employability skills and employment outcomes.

Compared to the control group, IM&M+ participants experienced significant gains in areas critical to sustaining labour market attachment (e.g., emotional intelligence, self-esteem and employment hope). Participants were also 41.7% more likely to be employed three months after completing the program.

Future reports will include data about exiting social assistance programs and completing education and/or training and will also take a look at longer-term outcomes.
